Open Space & Recreation

Creating successful community-wide park, greenway and open space networks requires a detailed knowledge of the environmental, social, recreational and community factors that shape larger scale park systems. Building on their experience designing and building local parks and greenways, Dodson & Flinker has helped communities and non-profits create interconnect networks of trails, protected lands and open spaces in integrated greenways. In Miami the firm helped develop a comprehensive inventory, management and physical improvement plan for the city’s extensive network of parks and recreation areas. In Massachusetts, Dodson & Flinker is producing plans for a 33 mile network of trails for the state parks agency. Work for private, non-profit land conservation groups included plans for private lands surrounding The Nature Conservancy’s Virginia Coast Reserve and refuge masterplans for the Massachusetts Audubon Society.
