NEW YORK WATERSHEDS PROGRAM

Dodson & Flinker Inc. developed model landuse plans and future development scenarios for four communities located within New York City’s sensitive upstate water supply reservoirs. The plans and scenarios showed how compact development and natural systems wastewater treatment technologies could reduce the impacts of stormwater runoff and wastewater from new development within the watersheds. Working closely with Regional Plan Association, New York City environmental officials and planning staff from each watershed community, the consultant team proposed practical solutions to conflicts between local development rights and the city’s public health concerns. Dodson & Flinker Inc. recommended site specific land use plans showing alternative land use patterns, development layouts and site engineering techniques that allow carefully sited and planned development while preserving open space and threatened drinking water resources.
