BLUEPRINT FOR A BETTER REGION

Working with author Tony Hiss and planner Ramon Trias, Dodson & Flinker helped a coalition of regional and national smart growth organizations create future development plans for three key areas in the metropolitan Washington, DC region. The sites included a major transit station, an edge city and a rural town and surrounding countryside. The planning scenarios included transit-oriented development, urban infill, creation of pedestrian-friendly streets and centers, preservation of farmland and open space, protection of environmental resources and the revival of the region’s traditional urban design, architectural and landscape heritage. The visioning study is currently being used by coalition members to develop support for a comprehensive planning and public participation process to be initiated in the near future.
