Dodson & Flinker is part of the design team for major renovation of the Parsons House dormitory at Smith College. Nate Burgess visited Northern Nurseries in September with the Chief Arborist at Smith College Botanic Garden, as well as landscape contractor Spring Valley Landscape, to select trees for the project. The visit included great discussion of priorities. In particular, the team discussed how Smith tends to prefer relatively smaller trees. While larger trees provide “instant gratification”, smaller trees recover faster from the shock of being dug and replanted, and quickly catch up to their larger peers.
