MANSFIELD TRAINING SCHOOL MASTERPLAN

Dodson & Flinker completed this masterplan for redeveloping a 160 acre section of an approximately 1,000 acre former state mental institution into a new village center. Extensive areas of prime farmland, over 90 existing buildings — some of them historic — as well as location of a dangerous highway intersection within the project area all contributed to a complex and challenging design problem. The project included the supervision of a multi-disciplinary team including market analysts, architects and engineers. The Masterplan calls for major sections of the property to placed in agricultural and forest land preservation with remaining areas to be developed for affordable, rental and market rate housing, congregate elderly facilities and commercial development. Renovation of the existing historic buildings was also recommended and accommodated in the Masterplan.
