The goal of this project was to create a vision to guide future redevelopment of an underutilized former industrial area in downtown Danvers, MA. Through a participatory design process where the public was invited to interact with a scale model of the site, Dodson & Flinker and Brovitz Community Planning & Design developed a guiding plan for the Maple St area. The project resulted in an illustrative plan which includes compact mixed-use development, improved walkability, parking within the interior of the block, re-use of existing and historic structures, and infill development on underutilized sites. The project also produced recommendations for overlay zoning in this district, which would steer future redevelopment towards implementing the illustrative plan.
