MINUTEMAN PLAZA

Dodson & Flinker assisted the University of Massachusetts in the development of design and construction documents for the Minuteman Crossing Plaza at Campus Pond on the Amherst campus. The work involved development of a landscape site plan for the area in the vicinity of the existing Minuteman Statue on the west side of the Campus Pond. The plan addressed overall plaza design, materials, grading, drainage, planting, seating and accessibility issues. The work involved initial meetings with Facilities & Campus Planning staff and the Class of ’56 Advisory Committee to refine existing concept sketches into a schematic design for the plaza acceptable to all parties. Design development with continued input from all stakeholders further refined the design. Construction documents and specifications suitable for bidding were prepared and Dodson & Flinker provided advice as the project was put out to bid by the University and provided construction observation services during the construction process. Minuteman Crossing received an Honor Award in 2014 from the American Institute of Architects, Western Massachusetts Chapter.
