Dodson & Flinker collaborated with T2 Architecture on the design for a combined library and senior center for the town of Upton, MA. This project builds off of a village center plan that Dodson & Flinker completed in 2019. That project, which included extensive community participation, identified the preferred location for the Community Center and helped to break a years-long deadlock on building a new community center. The new Upton Community Center provides needed community gathering space in the heart of Upton’s center, along with renovation and expansion of the town’s playground on the site of the new building. Upton’s library was previously located in the nearby historic Knowlton-Risteen building, which has insufficient space and is not fully accessible. Dodson & Flinker’s site design includes a renovated and expanded playground with a new nature playground area, an outdoor terrace with a stone retaining wall overlooking Center Brook, and garden areas with native and adapted plantings. The new community center opened in 2023.
