Town Beach Masterplan
Dodson & Flinker worked with Stephen Kelleher Architects to develop a masterplan for the Town Beach area of Swansea, MA. This small beach community on an old railroad line was a regional recreational destination in the early 20th century. In recent years, use of the site has been diminished by a lack of recreational facilities, degraded infrastructure, and on-going beach erosion. As part of the masterplanning process, D&F proposed two alternatives that sited new buildings, paths, play features, and beach nourishment activities in a manner sensitive to the site’s historyand ecology. Both alternatives also provide new pedestrian and bike routes between the main recreational beach and a small beach and meadow on the east side of the study area. The town accepted one of the masterplan alternatives in October 2014. D&F is currently working with Stephen Kelleher Architects on design development for Phase 1 of the masterplan.
